ONLINE FORUM: The Spirit of ‘76 with Alexander Salter
In 1776, American independence marked the dawn of a new experiment in liberalism and republican government. Since then, as the United States has grown in virtually every aspect, much of that initial enthusiasm toward the principles of liberty have dissipated. With his 2023 book, The Spirit of ‘76: Libertarianism and American Renewal, Professor Alexander Salter explores the classical liberal foundations of the American spirit, and how it’s still relevant today.

ONLINE FORUM: The 1619 Project — A Critique with Phil Magness

In 2019, the New York Times Magazine launched the 1619 Project during the 400 anniversary of the first slave ship’s arrival to North America. In the seven years since, the project’s historical revisionism has only grown in controversy among academics and the general public alike. Phil Magness has been vocal speaking out against its poor historical assertions from the beginning. In The 1619 Project: A Critique, Magness collects a series of essays that offers a counterpoint to the Project’s ideologically driven narrative that the American system was founded upon oppression.

Young Voices invites you to join the second of three online forums as part of our America 250 summer author series with Phil Magness to ask questions regarding his book and engage in a conversation about the future of the classical liberal tradition. Join us Wednesday, June 3rd at 12:00pm ET!
