Young Voices is searching for an associate editor to help edit and pitch op-eds that our network of writers produce to media outlets around the world with the aim of promoting the careers of our contributors and the message of liberty. This role will report to the executive editor and is available either in office in Washington, DC, or may be executed virtually.
Responsibilities
- Edit contributors’ op-eds with a focus on providing feedback to improve writing skills
- Pitch contributors’ op-eds to publications with the aim of building long-term media relationships
- Scrutinize contributor pitches from the start with an eye to where they might be published
- Research new outlets, creating a list of potential outlets the editorial team can pitch to and add to the list regularly
- Manage the editors listserv, answer contributors program questions and respond to article submissions
- Manage editorial pitch log, input new submissions and ideas, and track their progress throughout the editing and pitching process
Qualifications
- 1-5 years of professional experience in communication is preferred but not required
- Willingness to travel occasionally for conferences and other networking opportunities
- Strong writing and editorial skills
- Mission alignment is critical; a strong commitment to individual liberty and limited government is required
- Ability to multitask and set priorities
- Attention to detail
- Experience with Photoshop, iMovie, and/or Salesforce is a plus
