Last week, Young Voices made a splash with our first NextGen Debates event in New York City in collaboration with the streaming platform CiVL. More than 125 people attended in person our live debate titled "Duopoly Alternatives?" — a libertarian versus communist showdown!
Haz Al Din, chairman of the American Communist Party, sat down to debate Benjamin Williams from Young Americans for Liberty. The audience was fired up and asked some impassioned questions in the Q&A. Although the tensions at times were high, civil discourse won the night, with folks from both sides approaching our staff afterwards commenting how fun the event was.
The debate made waves on social media as well! Over 600 people watched the event live on the streaming platform CiVL, and the recording of the debate has over 25K views between the platform and X. Watch it here!
Mark your calendars for our second debate next Wednesday, October 23rd, exploring who libertarians should vote for in the 2024 presidential election. We'll be streaming the event live again with our partners on CiVL, so watch our event page for a link to the stream day of. More exciting debates to come!
Last week, Young Voices also hosted seven of our writers in New York City for the opening summit of our Middle East History & Peace Fellowship. In the wake of the ongoing Israeli-Hamas war, much of the public conversation is driven by historical misunderstandings. To address this, Young Voices is launching a fellowship designed to equip our writers with the historical context and knowledge needed to engage more thoughtfully on this issue. At the summit, our fellows heard from scholars Adam Kirsch (Wall Street Journal), Mariam Wahba (Foundation for Defense of Democracies), David Daoud (FDD), and student journalist Jonas Du (Columbia University) on the historical and current issues in the Middle East.
We're looking forward to sharing resulting media hits. Thank you, as always, to our supporters for making these exciting fellowships and events possible for our young leaders for liberty.
Sincerely,
Casey Given
